Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with System Guardian, try the following steps:
1. Restart the App
Quit System Guardian completely (right-click the menu bar icon and choose Quit, or press Cmd + Q), then relaunch it. This resolves most transient issues.
2. Check Notifications
If you're not receiving alerts, go to System Settings → Notifications and verify that System Guardian has permission to send notifications. Also check that notifications are enabled in the app's Settings → General tab.
3. Check Launch at Login
To verify Launch at Login is working, go to System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions. System Guardian should appear in the list. If it doesn't, toggle the setting off and on in the app's Settings.
4. Update macOS
Make sure you are running macOS 13 (Ventura) or later. Go to System Settings → General → Software Update to check for updates.
5. Reinstall the App
If issues persist, delete System Guardian from your Applications folder and reinstall it from the App Store. Your settings (stored in UserDefaults) will be preserved.
6. Memory Actions Show Minimal Change
This can be normal when the system is already in a healthy state. If the app reports no significant change, there may be little reclaimable cache at that moment.
7. Export a Diagnostics Snapshot
Open Settings → Advanced → Diagnostics and click Copy Diagnostics Snapshot. Include the snapshot when contacting support so we can review recent automated actions and settings.
8. Process Memory Limit Action Is Not Behaving as Expected
In
Settings → Advanced, verify your Process Memory Limit Action policy mode and lists:
- Allowlist Only (default): only matching entries are eligible.
- Never-Kill List: matching entries are always skipped.
Process control scope can vary by distribution and macOS sandbox permissions.
